ITAHARI, SEP 26 -
The Ministry of Health and Population has set up a new commission to
address the strike that is going on for 11 days at the BP Koirala
Institute of Health and Sciences ( BPKIHS ) in Dharan, Sunsari district.
Minister for Health and Population, Khagaraj Adhikari, today stated
that the ministry has formed a new commission comprising the
under-secretary of the Finance Ministry, Thaan Prasad Pangeni,
under-secretary of the Health Ministry Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Dr. Guna
Raj Karki and Dr. Bhagwan Koirala.
Similarly, Vice-Chancellor of the Institute Prof Dr Balbhadra Prasad
Das, Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha and Deputy Registrar Amit
Shreevastav have been nominated as members in the commission.
Expressing the government's concern over the adverse impact of the
strike on the health institute's regular activities, Minister Adhikari,
who is also the pro-chancellor of the Institute, said that the
government made the latest move.
Earlier, the ministry had formed a High Level Salary Scale Commission
in coordination with the former vice-chancellor of the Institute, Dr
Shekhar Koirala in view with addressing the strike.
However, Sujendra Tamang, the president of the Employees Welfare Forum
of the Institute said that they will continue with the strike in other
forms considering the nearing festivals if the newly formed commission
still fails to meet their demands.
The regular activities in the institute have been adversely affected
due to the strike of the Institute's staffers who have been demanding
increment in the salary and other facilities, it is learnt.
