Nepal govt Responsible for adhikari’s Death: AFAD

KATHMANDU, SEP 26 - The Asian Federation Against Enforced Disappearances (AFAD) has asked the government of Nepal to take responsibility for the death of Nanda Prasad Adhikari

, who died on Monday after an 11-month hunger strike to demand justice for the 2004 murder of his son Krishna Prasad.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, AFDF, a Manila-based rights organisation, called the death of Nanda Prasad a “shame” for Nepal and demanded that the Nepal government arrest the accused involved in murder of Krishna Prasad and save his mother, Ganga Maya, who is still on a fast-unto-death protest. AFDF has urged the government to amend the current Truth and Reconciliation Act to prevent amnesty against grave violations of human rights.
The Adhikari couple, who hails from Fujel village of Gorkha district, began indefinite hunger strike in February 2013 after their repeated appeals to the authorities to bring the perpetrators of their son’s murder to justice were unheard.
Eighteen-year-old Krishna Prasad was abducted allegedly by the then Maoist rebels on charge of spying for the state and subsequently murdered.
